The 100th Birthday celebrating Alfa Romeo. The Italian brand has seen many ups and downs. A look back on a century of design, speed and emotion. All beginnings are difficult - and this applies also for Alfa Romeo. Before 1910 the first car, the Alfa 24 HP, rolled off, the Italians must overcome some hurdles.
Already in 1907 the multinational Darracq trying to raise a car factory in Milan, but shares crisis and lack of demand make an scotched that. A group of Italian investors bought the factory and begin to design cars for the Italian market.
The name Alfa is born
On 24 June 1910 is born the name of Alfa, the abbreviation for "Anonima Lombarda Fabbrica Automobili". 1915 takes the engineer Nicola Romeo, the company's management. From 1919 all cars carry the name of Alfa Romeo. The arms of the city of Milan and the Visconti serpent form the company logo, which for many years has the name "Milano".
